Job Requirements
  • CSCS competency card and NVQ.
  • The trade requires physical manual work and the candidate must be able bodied and fit for work.
  • Good communication skills are required to ensure tasks are carried out safely in accordance with the written safe method of work documents (RAMS – Risk Assessments and Method Statements) produced by the site management.
  • Previous experience via references from Groundwork’s contractors.
  • Team work - work effectively and safely with others under minimum supervision.
  • Time management - use own time effectively to complete the work instructions to schedule and always arrive at, and be ready to work on time.
  • Working effectively - undertake the work in a reliable, safe and productive manner.
Main duties

  • Have an understanding of the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a Groundworker.
  • Installation of new below ground drainage pipework, construction of manhole chambers, banking 360 excavators for grading ground levels and excavating trenches. Placement and levelling of sacrificial ‘blinding’ concrete and installation of below ground waterproof membranes.
  • Locating and excavating to expose buried utility services.
  • Install, maintain and remove temporary protection and safety arrangements for the work area relating to barriers and temporary structures, including protection, safety notices and safety lighting.
  • Gauge and mix mortars and concrete by hand and by mixer.
  • Kerbing, edging, and slabbing.
  • Shallow drainage – install and testing.
  • Benching manholes.
  • Hand digging.
  • Safe use and maintenance of power tools and equipment, basic setting out equipment including tape measures, levels, straight edges, lines and pins, boning rods and laser equipment under guidance of the supervisor.
  • Reporting to site team.
  • Sourcing materials and tools from site stores.
  • Reinstating excavations and ground surface finishes.
  • Other duties as instructed by a supervisor/ manager.
